Protection & Deposits
Every rental on OurWatch is backed by security deposits, identity verification, and a structured dispute resolution process.
How We Protect You
OurWatch uses a layered approach to protect both hosts and renters throughout the rental process.
Security Deposits
Hosts set a security deposit for each listing. The deposit is authorized on the renter's payment method at booking and only captured if needed to cover damage or loss.
Identity Verification
All users complete identity verification through our KYC process, including government-issued photo ID validation and payment method verification through Stripe.
Watch Authentication
Every watch listed on OurWatch goes through authentication to verify genuineness. Condition is documented with photos before each rental, creating a baseline for any disputes.
Protected Shipping
Watches shipped through our platform use tracked, signature-required delivery. Packaging guidelines must be followed for both outbound and return shipments.
Security Deposits
Security deposits are the primary mechanism for protecting hosts against damage or loss. Hosts control the deposit amount for each listing.
- Deposit amounts are set by the host based on the watch's value
- Deposits are authorized (not charged) at booking and captured only if needed
- Released within 3–5 business days after successful return
- Partial captures are possible for minor damage
- Hosts can flag issues within 48 hours of return
Dispute Resolution
If something goes wrong during a rental, our dispute resolution process helps resolve issues fairly.
- 1. Document the issue — Take clear photos of any damage within 24 hours of discovery. Compare with the pre-rental condition photos.
- 2. Open a dispute — Report through the order detail page. Describe the issue and attach photos.
- 3. Review process — Our team reviews disputes within 48 hours. Both host and renter can provide evidence during this period.
- 4. Resolution — Based on the evidence, we determine appropriate action. The security deposit may be partially or fully applied to cover damages.
What's Not Covered
The following situations fall outside the scope of standard protection:
- Pre-existing damage or defects not disclosed by the host
- Normal wear consistent with the watch's stated condition grade
- Loss due to gross negligence (leaving a watch unattended in public)
- Unauthorized modifications or servicing by the renter
- Damage from water exposure beyond the watch's rated resistance
- Wear outside the agreed rental period without extension
